The entire school is split into two teams, red and yellow. Brothers and sisters are all placed on the same team. Even though the students were split into age groups to participate in the events, all ages worked together to acquire points for their team. As a teacher, I supported both teams and I showed my support by wearing as much of both colors as possible.
My favorite part of the day was the kindergarten sack race. The children did such a wonderful job, but they didn’t know where the finish line was. They didn’t know where to stop. They didn’t want to stop. So they continued hopping long after the finish line into the arms of their parents on the far side of the field. It was quite enthusiastic and also quite funny.
It was a fun day. I had a wonderful time watching children from all over the world and of all age groups working together for their team. I loved getting to see all of these children cheering each other on, even if they were on the opposite team or even if they were not the most athletic child. It was humbling and I rejoice in the fact that God has already started to build a sense of camaraderie. I’m looking forward to next year’s sports day.
